We often see in profiles: ...upmarket couple.
What is the meaning behind upmarket?
Did that mean you bring your bank statement to a meeting?
Or did you wear only desiner cloth and eat only certain food in certain resturants?
Warning, cheeky response follows!!!
It means they probably know how to spell "designer" and "restaurant"!
Sorry, could didn't resist, the voices made me do it.
Thats a good question Newby, I figure it's a 'attitude" thing . . . like the profiles that say "educated' . . . what the Beep?? I have two degree's, does that make me more f@$kable????
Just a story that happened to me. I once responded to a couple saying they were upmarket. After a few mails we decided to meet. They gave me their address and it was a small holding. I arrived at the place and found that they were staying in a caravan on the plot. Upmarket does not mean that you have to be well off or only wear designer clothing. They were a decent couple and i still have contact with them today, but more as a friendship level.
Upmarket
Here I am going to throw a curve ball. Have a look at the photos of the people say upmarket. Them are 9 times out of 10 referring to a persons build. Meaning they have models bodies and they are looking for the same or they are looking for people that has only model shape now in Joys words not mine ''Those that use the word upmarket go on as snobs.'' And we don't even waist time in looking at those profiles as we like to think of our self's as down to earth and not snobs.
Joyrider
''Remember it is not what you have and how much you have. It is how you treat other people.''
I built a huge house with sepparate guest quarters, what a waste, but then I was upmarket
Built a smaller 2 bed and rent out the big house but oh my have I come down in life
Yup, I also think of *upmarket* as being snobbish....BUT sometimes they are not.
Me, I am *down* market all the way!!!!!
What does it really mean when people say they are upmarket and they only play with other upmarket people? what difference does it make?
L&D....
When most people *say* they want to meet up with *upmarket* people.
I always see it this way....they would like people with LOTS of money, Status, a few degrees behind their name.
They must live in a Upper class suburb and drive the newest Mercedes or BMW,only wear designer clothes and shoes, Wear real diamonds and Rolex`s and most likely go for botox and liposuction and facelifts and boob-lifts all the time...Only drink the finest of wines and dines only *quality foods*Have their own company have lots of servants or butlers ,gardeners and staff and only go to the best of shows and theaters.
They do not mix with people like me....
I am a plain POOR working lady who lives in a small little house and drives a small little car, I cannot afford liposuction or do I wear diamonds or designer clothes or shoes.I clean my own home and do my own little garden.
BUT I could be wrong of course....BUT that is my view....
The dictionary says.... high-quality, notable, renowned, prestige, eminent, reputable professional people.
Morning all . . . .
This is the second time (that I am aware of) that this topic has come up in recent weeks, SO . . . . . . let's work it to death, let's give it full and exhaustive treatment (that includes everyone, even those that think we are click) oh, I'm so funny . . . .
So, the upmarket debate . . . .
If one looks at the greater meaning of the word ""The dictionary says.... high-quality, notable, renowned, prestige, eminent, reputable professional people"" well then everybody is exactly all those things in their own ways. The problem is, people all have their own interpretation of what makes others upmarket . . . . (mmmm, me thinks this sounds a bit like the race issue confusion)
What one person would regard as an "upmarket" quality, another might regard as being 'the norm" . . . . as I said in the previous version of this topic, I have two degree's, but that does not make me any more fu@k@ble than someone who does not, yes, the chances are that conversation may be more ideal, but then there are people who do not have a degree that are capable of holding a way more intelligent and competent conversation. It also does not change 'class" . . . maybe financially it may change the class according to the way upper, middle & lower class are classified, but if I am a fat pig of a slob, I am a fat pig of a slob regardless of my education, worldly possessions and or financial status.
If people are looking for suitable playmates on this type of site, they should be specific about certain things, like male / female straight / gay / bi and maybe even distance away from themselves. If people were not so hung up on petty issues (race, class etc) and just cleared up the basic requirements, I am almost certain they would have enjoyed way more contact with people. Remembering that it is simple to say "thank you but no thank you" when the person contacting you is not what you dee ideal in a playmate, perhaps doing it this way would open their own minds and views and they would also gain experience on how to communicate with strangers via this media.
I often wonder how many opportunities have been missed because one did not take the time to chat for a little while.
I have merged the two threads...
Now you can all read back over the salient points of the earlier discussion
Ahhh I thought I was seeing DOUBLE.......was on my way to check my meds......thought I overdosed by mistake....
Im down to earth, mix with all kinds of people regardless and i am educated. I do how ever have a big problem with snobs.
I believe in this sense though that it could mean different things. But the people that are using it as snobs to hook up with other snobs are missing out. Experience and explore i say! If u stuck up u wont have fun.
Well i now wonder.... what class or market am i in. I have a standard highschool education. I'm a manager, mother and instructor. i have 4 kids and 2 dogs. i clean my own home and do my own gardening. I do not have time to "fake" myself up with plastic in my boobs or to iron away my wrinkles. i don't drive a car. i'm a biker. I have an average 4 bedroom home in an average neighbourhood and i support the Sharks. but i do have time for fun. have a couple of great friends and make time to help my kids with Eitstedfod, soccer, chess and guitar lessons. So what market am i?
@ L&D...you guys fall into my *market*...........BIG smile!!!!!!!!!
You will find that all the upmarket people are newly rich and afraid of there back grounds
Real upmarket people will never look down onmBosburg or Benoni
Know some great guys from the eastern suburbs, some really big one's
Now that makes me wonder, is this general for the downmarket guys, not having any other toys to play with
I know a few real "skates" living in Sandton , Lonehill and Hartebeest dam, whom I would never allow to cross my threshold.
And I know a few absolute "Gems" whom I would go to war for, living in Springs, Brakpan and Soweto.
