Did you know that only an average of 8 percent of us sleep naked, even though it is healthier and improves more than one area of our life? Are we all sabotaging our sleep, well-being, sex-lives and relationships, or are we just unaware?
We, including me, need to chuck out those PJ's or whatever it is we wear beneath the sheets and bring out our birthday suits.........Here is why!
Sleeping naked helps prevent insomnia. A drop in core body temperature is needed in order for sleep to initiate normally and, as the body pushes the heat out from the core - like a radiator and releases it - if our body cannot release the heat, because of heavy clothing or socks, we are more likely to suffer from the inability to sleep properly, because our core will not be able to release the heat. Sleeping naked allows the heat to release more quickly and help us to fall asleep faster.
A cooler room also works wonders. Notice, I did not say cold!
Naked sleepers get deeper, longer sleep, because the regulation of in-bed body temperature could significantly help in reaching a deeper sleep (RAM) for longer periods of time.
Sleeping naked helps prevent excess belly (visceral) fat, as natural body cooling at night helps us lower our cortisol levels. The deep sleep hours between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. lower cortisol levels to a minimum; then after 2 a.m., the glands that produce cortisol start working more actively, in order to prepare the body for the next day. This is so we feel "energized" when we wake up.

So, WTF are we still wearing pajamas? We need to indulge in a little (a lot more!) naked time. It seems we will not regret it. It actually forces us to be ready to go, more often!
Some people get off of work, change into their jarmies, and use this, as an excuse to stay home for the rest of the evening. Eish, that sound just like me! This can lead to a more sedentary lifestyle, which has been attributed to things like weight gain. When we keep our regular clothes on, we tend to go out more often and that is a good thing. Right?
It is easier too. When we do not have to worry about sleeping in clothes, we do not have to buy then, which can save us money; we have less clothes to wash and less clothes to put away. Granted, we have to clean our bed sheets more often, but not nearly as often, as we would have to wash our jarmies when they run out.
So, lets revisit the scenario I have described above..
There are no drawstrings or clothes getting tangled in sheets. We do not have to worry about T-shirts getting twisted. All of these distractions go away, when we sleep naked and it may help us get better, deeper sleep. We surely do not need science to tell us that better, deeper sleep only helps us be healthier.
Dammit..it is time to start taking off our clothes at night! Of course, there are times where clothes are preferable - if we are ill or it is fucking cold outside. Then we should sleep with clothes on to help us stay warm and prevent further illness.
