Going to clubs is daunting and YES people tend to sit with whom they know, and it may seem they are stuck up and unfriendly.
I would think you guys should ask /advertise or browse around and see who the people is whom always goes to parties and to the clubs you want to go to....Then write them and ask for them to meet you there and just to introduce you around for the first hour.
Unfortunately I do not know anyone here on the site who goes to clubs there in Gauteng,or else I could have ask them to mail you guys.

That being said, the lifestyle (in our experience) can be compared to any other sub-section of society/community eg a sports club. Joining a new group is always a little bit daunting....not knowing what the procedures are; what is acceptable and what is not; hazy on the basic how-to's etc etc The folk can seem to be "clicky"until you get to know them.....
Regarding clubs vs private parties: it's a personal choice. Both will be whatever you make of the experience. If you sit in a corner avoiding eye-contact, then your experience will be just that. If you go with a view to have fun regardless, then, guess what? You will have fun!
We were all new at some stage....we all felt a little overwhelmed and excited....and, for the most part, we are all friendly folk who would be happy to say "hi" and have a drink with you.....
