So we went there yesterday at about 4, couldn't really find where there was a spot to play as it is all very open and visible to the road or the park on the otherside, were we in the wrong place?

You were at the wrong place. You must drive into the park. From Malibongwe don't turn left at the sign board. Drive to the next set of robots, turn left and left at the second set of robots. Enough place to play under the trees.
