You know - when you become a mod you get all these cool "mod-superpowers" one of which is the ability to edit posts/profile write-ups made by other people (you know to remove offensive comments, contact information or stuff that breaks the rules) And maybe it's my editing experience but I have to say I itch, sometimes literally, to fix people's spelling, grammar and sentence structure. I have to pin myself down and respect everyone's right to be bad spellers and use awful sentence structure and inappropriate terms lol smile IT's a constant battle for me not to hit that "edit" button... If you had an edit button - would you be tempted to correct people's spelling?
LeeC at any time you can press the edit button on my spelling and grammar
Ha ha - no - it's just rude to edit unsolicited... and I'm really trying to not do things (as well meaning as I might be) that offend people smile
Some of us, me include sadly, just can't spell !!!!!
I must admit I would be sorely tempted as well. I'm the go-to guy at work for help with editing reports smile
LeeEC, yip! I know what you mean and how you feel! I am the guy who dots the "i"s and crosses the "t"s, and normally proofreads his own posts and messages twice before clicking "send", and then gets really embarrassed when he sees an error that managed to slip through....
I try but sometimes I'm lazy on forums, but I do what I can.
slep i cant gramma even wrs wink honestly I've never been able to spell, and spell check can give some rather interesting twists to sentences
i do apologies ,i am a lazy speller .I have no is my first language and in todays techie auto tune auto correct world we should actually take that split second to do things properly.i wonder if there is any correlation between someones spelling and grammar and their performance in bed/shower/kitchen.i know lee has mentioned before how poor spelling bothers her but what are some of the pet hates out me its some profiles that say they are open minded and then proceed to list things they will not do .
I would go crazy with that "edit" button. Give me super powers like Superman and I would be just and honest. Give me that Edit button and that absolute power would corrupt absolutely. I am literally unable to read this Mxit spelling bullshit. L8r pplz

Oh, is that what this gobbledygook stuff is? wink I thought it was a military secret code... lol
I would be tempted yes, but one runs the risk of changing what the person was actually trying to say. I just rather use the most clever word in the dictionary in times of spelling confusion . . . .HUH?

I believe the technical term for use on the Internet is Dafaq
An example used below
I Can not spell to save my life not in Afrikaans my home language nor English so if it was not for the spell checkers I would be totally lost, the thing is I like communicating with people so I do and feel that this is who I am and I have excepted myself and expect others to do the same, if they do not want to communicate with me because I am bad at spelling its their loss, I had the problem specifically on a blog that I was running some time back where I took a lot of flack for not spelling correctly. Spell checkers are great but can also just help so far as there is may similar words meaning different things.
So the rule is "I" before "E" except after "C" . . . . . then you get words like their, weir . . . . . . I could go on, but rules are rules man wink

But in English, rules seem to be meant to be broken!...
I too would be wanting to correct, even though I also sometimes get the weirdest suggestions from the spellcheck! I have had to also resit the urge to contact peeps whom I can clearly see is Afr and has been directly translating their sentences on their profile! Not your Adonis wink have way to much respect for the simple fact that you are at least contributing here even if struggling with the English!

My Aunt uses this short hand stuff in her sms and messages, I usually just answer yes and hope it was the right answer cause I don't always get it as well!!

My mother is in her 70's, and she also understands these modern day ab  breviations better than I ever will . ..
For my mom... LOL means Lots Of Love, and WTF means With The Family... ;) C
Mrs Cat here: I must confess that I cannot spell in any one of the seven languages which I speak, however, there is absolutely no valid or logical reason for anyone using a computer to not be able to spell correctly: the pc has spell check! As for poor grammar and punctuation, this is another animal entirely, as many folks' native tongue is not English and yet they bravely attempt to communicate in their best, yet often incomprehensible, English. While I respect their efforts immensely, I often wish they would rather write in their native tongue as this would be a truer reflection of them/their personalities. The "edit" button answer: I would be hard-pressed not to correct grammar etc......glad I do not have "mod superpowers"!
Oh boy...now you are touching a very sore point ... I dislike people who use sms`s messages to mail me.I usually do not understand them at all. I am proudly Afrikaans and my English and grammar is NOT always goodness for spell checks, but then there is so many variants to spelling one word,I never know if I chose the correct one. I am also slightly dyslexic , and I always turn my letters around, lucky for me everyone`s brain is something special....the brain reads incorrect words RIGHT.
