Seems its time we start a new thread to get to convo ball rolling again. So I figured we could start with an easy one. So besides a swinging interest I'm curious as to what other hobbies you guys have to carve out your free time with. I'll start with mine which is Scuba diving. Personally I love some time down under and exploring our oceans. One of my favourite dives was in Chuuk lagoon diving the San Francisco Maru wreck at 55m. Best part was standing behind the gun on stern and imaging the crew operating this massive gun in war and the sounds of orders being yelled across the deck in the heat of battle.

So does Rietvlei offer BOTH kinds of birds then?, 'cos that would be the ultimate - two hobbies fulfilled with a single visit!! It's a bit off my beaten track, I have been there before, and also Roodeplaat, but not for quite a while (definitely not since developing my current "watching" interest!)... Must go check it out again sometime I'm in the far north! Tx PC for the suggestion.
I'm an ex cook(chef) so I cook and make /decorate cakes.

Divers do it deeper... The best diving we have ever done must have been in Bali. The water was 32 degrees and crystal clear with tons of fish and corals.
Mr E also spends his spare time building a replica Lotus 7 car at the moment. Together we like working in the veg garden with the kids. As for me I'm a bit of a pack rat craft mismatch do all....meaning I love learning a new craft such as knitting, cake decorating, glass painting ext. But as soon as I know how to do it all the equipment heaps up and I move to something new. And as for the pack rat part, I keep al sorts of stuff because you never know when those deo can tops are to be needed for you grade R's school robot project! lol On more serious note I love reading and not just fiction. If I hear of something I don't know I used to spend hours reading up on it in the encyclopaedia, these days of course goolge makes it so much easier!
Mrs has vegie garden, had our first spinach out of it today. Kids help in it. Mr hmmmm reading almost anything
I'm a part time classical musician - violin.

Bali was awesome also, but I was also 13 at the time when we went.
we enjoy motorcycling good red wine ( its all good) yacking laughing
I am a dancing person. I have been dancing for 11 years, although changed disciplines this year. I may not be the best dancer, but it is the best way to lose yourself for a few hours, and feel great at the end of it! K is into cycling. He did the 94.7 cycle challenge this past weekend. Together we enjoy camping and general nature, oh, and we are snake collectors... K is a walking bird book, which is awesome! We go to game parks, and spend our time looking in the trees for reptiles or birds, and he can correctly identify almost all of them! smile ;) C
I snorkel whenever I overcome my laziness. Want to get my scuba tickets, but I'm never able to save up money to do it, why is there always a damn hole to fill???? Think I should start spearfishing. Although we don't have that much pelagic fish close to shore here in the cape, you make due with what you have. Anybody maybe have some advice on the subject.
Spear fishing isn't that hard IMO. My only issue is when scuba divers take up spear fishing as I don't think that is fair, free diving is better. That though brings up skin diving techniques to prevent shallow water black out and also you need to be fairly fit to hold your breath. Still, brave to go swimming in Cape Town in that cold water.
That cold cape water keeps you young and fit! At least that's the bullshit I tell myself. I agree that spearing should be done on your own steam. If you're not good enough to do it without cheating, rather take up playing dominoes

Awesome hobbies... Well any outdoor sport : at the moment its tennis/running/swimming/ golf----- and i the future will definitely take up snow- sand- boarding, Kite surfing(I surf already)...
And of course When Time is on my side.... Travelling to see the world and capturing memories from the travels...
Mr Nawty is an avid fan of Nikola Tesla and enjoys perfecting his reproduction of the Tesla Coil (the largest privately owned one in SA). He also loves entertaining everyone with his fire poi when the mood strikes.... On his "to do in the near future" list: he wants to learn how to scuba dive; get back into flying gliders and into skydiving again! I enjoy cooking, horse riding and studying (subjects of interest to me range from Macro Economics to Commerical Law to the Esoteric etc) .... On my "to do in the near future" list: get back to playing classical piano and guitar again; learning how to scuba dive and gonna try skydiving with Mr Nawty as my Jump Master! We both love socializing, dancing, music, traveling (both nationally and internationally), fine dining, movies, theatre, playing 8ball pool, Texas holdem poker, darts and board games like trivial pursuit. We are active and dedicated hedonists constantly seeking the next pleasurable experience/hobby....
Gosh @ NawtyCat you guys sound a LOT like some of bestest playmates! How awesome. M is into motor bikes. .. All kinds from the sort fast to the super nippy. .. loves to get dirty! lol He's also quite a talented gardener. I love to read, subjects as varied as ancient history, forensic science, anatomy, human biology and sexuality, Crime, Science, medicine, psychology, neurology, and many more I can't think of now smile I also love music, don't have any musical instrumental ability, (luckily many of my family members play multiple instruments) but I love to sing. So my brother and his guitar come in handy times. I am also very into my arts and crafts. . From paper crafts to beadwork, and such, I dabble with sewing every now and then. But my real arts like painting and sculpture are my true loves- I most enjoy metal work, though I don't often get the chance. I paint mostly with acrylics but also enjoy gauche. But my true love- my passion, is coaching.
I have perhaps a few too many hobbies/interests that keep me spread quite thin sometimes  I sing, can play rhythm guitar and a bit of bass. I was in a few bands back in my varsity days, but now its more sing-a-longs by the braai with the rest of the family. I read a lot - mainly fantasy and science fiction as my work is chemistry related and I need a way to escape the numbers and complex names smile - I have a huge library of real books, and an almost as large collection on my Kindle (best purchase ever!). I'm a gamer geek (PC, X-Box, tabletop roleplaying games, boardgames). I also write for a webcomic that I started with a friend of mine. As a new homeowner I'm getting into the whole DIY business, quite proud of my small yet growing tool collection. And my next project/hobby is to get involved in archery. I've always been fascinated with medieval weaponry (back at varsity I was on the KZN Sabre team for fencing) and now want to learn a new weapon.
My hobbies and interests vary quite al lot. I LOVE cricket. I play club cricket as well as provincial indoor cricket. I do gardening and really take pride in it. I enjoy cooking and even baking. (being single you have to). I enjoy watching crime series as well as sci-fi. I do fishing, fresh water and deep sea. I ride horses and do cross country and dressage. I love taking my children for walks when I can. 2 huskies and a boerbull. I am a bit of an adrenaline freak and go bungy jumping and white water rafting. I would still love to go skydiving. Not tandem jumping. I love socialising and entertaining. I play a bit of piano and play the trumpet. I used to be in the cadets orchestra. I love singing and karaoke. Singstar rocks and my family doesn't want to play it with me. Brain teazer games are fun like Buzz.
Get into scuba diving, it's the best sport ever. Then go somewhere tropical and you combine diving with ladies in bikinis silly
