I find it fascinating reading this. WHY? well because I think it is actually a fairly common problem and most of us would just boil it down to the person doing the handwork not knowing or not being interested in the task at hand, when it is in fact somewhat more involved than that.
My 2c worth, when the person doing hand work seems to be struggling, some oil (I find it better than Lube) works wonders because it eliminates that "yanking" effect. Also, that way their hand can work over the entire shaft and also the head.
