I'm very curious, is anyone here attending Afrika Burn at the end of April?
Has anyone been before?
It looks like an interesting event
It is interesting and fun...I would advice anyone planning to go, to book early and to go in a group!!!!
Enjoy!!!!
Oh yeah, I am interested to know the answer to that question too!!
@hotguy Where is it? Where can I get more info?
It most CERTAINLY is NOT a Pagan thing...it is all about ART!!!!!!! and how people want to express that form.
Not that being a Pagan is wrong. i know plenty of people who are Pagans and Wiccans.
Anyway Lee
Just Google *Africa Burn* and you will find all info about where and what is happening and where to book.
I went 3 years ago and it was a blast!!!!!!
It is certainly not a pagan thing. It's in the Karoo, where there is a massive amount of art on show, with pop up clubs and entertainment. If you google "Afrika burn" you can find their details.
All sorts of I teresting things, nudist communities, gifting takes place where no money is exchanged at all during the 7 days of the event.
I am going this year. Tickets are hard to come by but there is a list where you can still get tickets.
Enjoy your self HG4C
Take lots of sunscreen, if you are a lady take a Chinese hand fan...People is is HOOOOOOoooooottttt!!!
Earplugs and a sleeping mask......things just never comes to stop there....
Well, last night Matt and I were offered tickets to go with his sister and her husband to AfrikaBurn 2015. I've looked at the site and combed over all the details and I really can't understand why any of these people (my husband and his sister and her husband) would even want to go to it... I'm totally an art freak but I look at this site and I look at my family an I think "These people want to go to THAT event?!" "Seriously?"
I'm flumoxed... and slightly bemused at the ticket price tag (decomodified my arse!) and I'm trying to imagine how we (the group of us) could possibly fit everything we would need into the van that they want to take... And I'm totally freaked by how I'm going to DIE in a 40C day temp! Or is it that bad in April/May anymore? No idea! and I DON'T have a bicycle (Though I have no idea where we would fit bicycles in the vehicle).
Is it worth it? Really?
Ok I know that my brain is flu-addled right now so maybe everything looks like too much work right now...
but really? Anyone? Is it?
@LeeEC
I have to laugh, Lucky lady ,getting tickets to go!!!!!!
I am MOST certainly NOT and outdoorsy person...but ,I did enjoy going to the one we went to!! Maybe because we were a group of lively women who seems to never stop to go to something or the other,or just lying around chatting and joking!!!
BUT I had to admit, to enjoying my HOUR long shower, the moment we stepped into a civilized air-con room!!! and to passing out to sleep for a day and night!!!!!
Not sure what is on offer this year as each year is different.
I know it is boiling during the day,but just as you might know, the Karoo evenings and nights are wonderful
I can not comment on the *wonderfull quietness* as things never goes quiet while you are there, hench me saying EARPLUGS. Oh, and bug repellent ,nearly forgot that one!!!
Go and enjoy and just maybe you get to meet up with HG4C and who knows, maybe you and him and hubby can disappear for a few hours....
we stayed for 14 years close to africa burn on a farm warniing the weather can turn this time of the year any time from 52 to -14k
I am not an artsy or outdoors person by nature. In fact I'm the opposite. A city boy through and through. For me, it's about trying something new. Something different. I always like to say, that I will try most things twice, once to see if I like it and second time to confirm ha ha ha ha
But seriously, Lee......... There are lots of aspects that I have read up on that have made me think about the event, in both good and bad light. And I have also noticed the aspects such as the de commodified tags. I have some interesting links to articles that you may find intriguing. Aside from all the negative, I am still willing to experience it.
As do the food ad packing space, I'm going through the same dilemma, and for me its a 1300km drive.
I'm packing clothes for the hot and cold just to be on te safe side. I'm going with a groups of 28 people, all being involved in one "tribe".
PIB, well......... If Lee does decide to make a turn, I would love to meet. Even just for a chat.
I'm not sure if anyone recognizes me, but I was on the site before...... funwithcouples ;-) and had many interesting chats with Lee and others.
@ Hotguy4couples
Sweetie I have recognized you from the start, you have had now 3 profile names if I remember correctly, I think the most have,if they have not, they must surely be blind!!! Or be in a worse Alzheimer state that what I am.
It is going to be a vast and BIG place, but if the world is small enough to bump into people one has not seen in years. Nothing is preventing you guys to bump into each other while enjoying the art and fun. I just think the heat will deplete any sexual function and even thoughts around it.
ermm I forgot to add, I took an umbrella with me (my lovey bought it for me on the way to the place at some forsaken little town that never has rain),or so it seemed ...just wearing a sun hat just did not do it in that heat for I did walk around with a water-bottle and a face-cloth at all times.... facecloth to wet and wear as a cooling aid around my neck, water to drink.
I also like to do things 3 times....me as the first time is not always fun...second time better and third the deal breaker....but I liked and enjoyed myself the one time I went , BUT YOU ARE NOT going to get me there EVER again......
