There are those select few who have the talent for written expression and the intellect to pick interesting topics. In my humble opinion they should be the one's to keep the forums alive......I would be hard pressed to wade through poorly written mundane topics to find the gem.....and foresee that others would feel the same way and instead of "picking up" the forums, the current avid readers, authors and commentators would become apathetic and the forums would die......
Having said that, a reward (for example best author of the month based on best topic/forum of the month as voted by readers) may be a great way to show the talented authors that we appreciate their efforts and skill. A reward of this nature may serve to encourage authors to continue their good work and inspire budding new authors to take the plunge and put pen to paper ....
With regards the reward, it may indeed be an idea to list all of the bribe offers and allow the winner to choose his or her own favourite prize. (And who knows? This may have a spin-off effect of creating an alternate means for folk to meet and socialize....... 
)
