We were children together
You and I.
As toddlers hand in hand,
We'd run and climb, explore a world
That seemed just there for our delight.
So young we'd not yet learned to fight
We revelled in each other.
Well I recall how innocently
You'd plant a kiss
On an unsuspecting cheek,
Reach out and touch
Without restraint or shame;
And love was just a natural way to be,
Uncomplicated and free.
As every birthday beckoned
With the promise,
Of dreams fulfilled
And not a harbinger of death
We'd look with scorn at the lives around us
So sure we'd never fall into the shambles
But ride life's crest.
And now I look back
Across the wasted years
And ask myself
How did I ever come
To lose you?
You were so dear to me
The one I used to be.
The poem was written for all the people who let there true love , slip through there hands, and regret if for the rest of there lives.
