Dogging is a slang term referring to the performance or watching of sexual activities between two or more people in public or semi-public spaces, and is closely linked to voyeurism, exhibitionism and cuckholding.

Popular areas for dogging include motor vehicles, either moving or parked at shopping mall and outdoor parking areas, parks, areas with lots of trees, rivers, dams and beaches, quiet roads, change/fitting rooms, cinemas, night clubs, restaurants, public transport and public restrooms, at times when it is unlikely that people who may be offended by such acts will be around.

5. Put your cellphone, wallet and jewelry out of sight before inviting other doggers to your vehicle, or only carry bare essentials to the dogging site.

6. Stay vigilant while you engage.  It is always wise to have a lookout or to position vehicle mirrors so that you can detect anyone approaching.

7. Never reveal your own, or the identity of other doggers. Create a dogging name to protect your identity or use your profile name from the dogging site you use.

8. Observe rules in respect of driving and parking.

9. Do not litter. Dispose of all condoms, tissues, wet wipes and other waste responsibly in a designated bin. Do not pollute water sources and the environment.

10. Do not trespass onto privately owned property and stay out of areas where your vehicle could potentially get stuck.

11. Never go dogging alone if you are a woman.

12. Never start dogging in an unfamiliar place if you have not driven around a few times before stopping to ensure that the area is reasonably safe. Remember criminals are present everywhere and can easily spot out-of-towners.

13. Switch of your engine znd headlights when you are ready to play.

14. Observe good dogging etiquette at all times. This includes:

- Do not approach a vehicle that is parked with its doors closed and windows rolled up. This is a signal that privacy is required.

- Do approach a vehicle with its windows rolled down slowly. If the occupants proceed to roll the windows up as you approach, leave. They do not want you to watch or come closer.

- A parked vehicle with the driver or passenger door open is a signal that you may approach. If the occupant/s close the door while you are approaching, it means that they are not interested in you.

- If any vehicle allows you to approach fully, be polite, communicate and ask if you can watch, participate or masturbate. NO  MEANS NO so do not be pushy and make certain all boundaries are respected at all times.

-  If watching, do not touch unless verbally invited to do so.

- Open the driver's door if you want others to join you, or open the passenger's door if you want others to join your partner while you watch, alternatively open both doors if you want others to join the both of you.

14.  Drive around for a bit or go to a filling station or mall or stop to by food or refreshments after you leave the dogging spot  to make sure you are not being followed.

While the thrill and excitement of being watched or knowing that someone could catch you at any moment makes dogging seem very appealing,   always remember that dogging does carry certain inherent risks, for example:

- Section 20 of the Sexual Offences Act 23 of 1957 prohibits committing an "indecent act" in public and you could land up with a criminal record if caught by the police.

- With the advancement of technology, there is a possibility that a member of the public could film your outdoor fun and upload it to social media

Fortunately there are other ways of indulging your taste for sex outside of the bedroom in a safe and hot) manner. These are:
